STATE USSR STANDARD METALS TENSION TEST METHODS G0ST 1497-84 (ISO 6892-84, CMEA Standard 471-88) Official Edition STANDARDS PUBLISHING HOUSE Moscow Provided by IHS Not for Resale Group B09 UDC 669.01:620.172:006.354 U R E ND A R D METALS GOST 1497-84 Tension Test Methods (ISO 6892-84 CMEA Standard 471-88) OKSTU (All-Union Classification Code of Standards and Specifications) 0909 Date of Introduction 01.01.86 This Standard establishes the static tension test methods for ferrous and non- ferrous metals and for articles made from them of 3.0 mm and more in nominal diameter or minimum cross section size for determination of the following mechanical proportionality limit; modulus of elasticity; physical yield point: conventional yield point; maximum load point; uniform percent elongation: percent elongation after rupture; percent contraction of cross section after rupture. This Standard does not apply to testing of wires and pipes. This Standard complies with CMEA Standard 471-88 and ISO 6892-84 regarding the essence of the method, testing and processing of test results of metals and metal articles with minimum cross section size of 3.0 mm and more. The terms used in this Standard and their definitions are specified in Appendix 1. (Amended Wording, Amendments Nos. 2 and 3). The cutting out of blanks for the samples shall be carried out with aid of cutting machines, shears, punchers, by application of oxygen and anode-mechanical cutting and other techniques, providing for metal zone margins with altered properties during heating and hardening. The places of blanks cutting out for the samples, their quantity, direction of longitudinal axis of the samples in relation to the blank, margin sizes during the cutting out shall be indicated in specifications and technical documentation for sampling and blank selection regulations or for metal products. 1.2. The cutting machines shall be recommended for samples fabrication. The measures (such as cooling, appropriate processing conditions) shall be taken to eliminate the possibility of metal properties alteration during heating or hardening as a result of machining. The cutting depth at the final run shall not exceed 0.3 mm. 1.3. The flat samples shall keep the surface layers of rolled metal unless there are other indications in specifications and technical documentation for sampling and blanks selection regulations or for metal products. The sag of span for flat samples at the length of 200 mm shall not exceed 10 % of the sample thickness, but shall be of no more than 4 mm. The flattening or any other way of samples straightening shall be allowed if there are appropriate indications in specifications and technical documentation for the metal products. 1.4. The spews on flat samples facets shall be removed mechanically without samples surface damaging. It shall be allowed to polish and scrap the edges in the samples working parts with aid of abrasive disk or abrasive paper. 1.5. If there are no other indications in specifications and technical documentation for metal products, the roughness parameter values of the machined surfaces Ra of the samples shall be of no more than 1.25 microns - for the working part surfaces of cylindrical sample, and Rz of no more than 20 microns - for flanks in the flat sample working part. The roughness requirements for the surface of cast samples and finished products shall correspond to the roughness requirements for the surface of cast blanks and metal products, tested without prior machining.
