The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through IsO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been non-governmental, in liaison with isO, also take part in the work. IsO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/lEC Directives, Part 2. The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (sO 9249:1997), which has been technically revised. It also incorporates the Technical Corrigendum ISO 9249:1997/Cor 1:1999. ii ISO 9249:2007(E) Introduction This International Standard is intended to be applied in conjunction with the “"core” standard, IsO 15550, in rating. The “satellite” standard is therefore not a stand-alone document but is intended to be completed by the requirements laid down in ISO 15550.
