The series consists of three parts: Part1:Definitions and general requirements (IECPublication554-1). Part2:Methodsof test(IECPublication554-2) Part 3: Specifications for individual materials. Sheet 1: General Purpose Electrical Paper and Sheet 4: Electrolytic Capacitor Paper have already beenpublished. SHEET3CLASS3:CREPEPAPER 1. Scope This sheet contains the requirements for crepe paper, as defined in IEC Publication 554-1, Part 1: Definitions and GeneralRequirements, classifiedas: Type 3.l:Ahard, comparatively non-absorbent,crepedkraft insulating paper madefrom base papers of low (L)or medium (M) permeability, such as Types 1.3-2Mand 1.3-2Ldescribed inTableIofIECPublication554-1. Type 3.2: A soft, porous, creped kraft insulating paper made from base papers of high (H) per- meability, such as Type 1.2-2H described in TableI of IEC Publication 554-1. Requirements 2 2.1 General Thepapershallcomplywiththegeneral requirementsofIECPublication554-1 2.2 Sampling The sampling procedures shall be as given inISO Standard186-1977:Paper and Board-Sampling for Testing. Primary and secondary crepe 2.3 The paper may be either of the following: a)primary crepe is defined as a crepe paper made by a technique which does not include an inter- mediate stageas a dry,planeweb of basepaper; b)secondary crepe is defined as a crepe papermade first as a dry,plane web of base paper and then creped by a subsequent process. 1 [IEC page 5] BS5626:Part3:Section3.3:1982 The base paper of secondary crepe of Types 3.1 and 3.2 shall comply with all the requirements in Sheet 1:General Purpose Electrical Paper, of Part 3 (IEC Publication 554-3-1). For primary crepe, the fibres and their preparation shall be the same as for paper complying with the requirements of Sheet1 of Part 3of this standard. 2.4 Testing When tested by the methods stipulated, the paper shall comply with the requirements listed in Table I. Methodofdescribingrequirements When ordering crepe paper, a purchaser should quote the type designation, as given above, and in addition should specify the substance of the base paper and the elongation at break of the crepe paper. If subsequent calendering is required, this should be specified by the letter C. The purchaser should also specify whether the creping is to be coarse, medium, or fine.Coarse crepe paper normally has a hill count (see Table I)of up to eight counts per10 mm, medium crepea count of between eight and twelve per 10mm, and fine crepe a count greater than twelve per 10 mm. Examples a) 3.1-70-80C" would specify a hard base paper with an air permeability of symbol M or L and a substance of 70 g/mcreped to give a nominal elongation at break of 80% and subsequently calendered. The addition of “fine"would indicate that a fine crepe is required. substance of 90 g/m* creped to give a nominal elongation at break of 50%. The addition of "coarse"would indicate that a coarse crepe is required. The preferred nominal values for elongation at break are 20%, 30%,50%, 80%,120%, 200% and 300%.
