ABSTRACT
Our latest research efforts in the area of internal auto-
matic transmission gaskets have focused on techniques
to quantify the property of erosion resistance and tech-niques to verify the performance of integral filter gaskets.This paper starts with a discussion of the erosive forcesacting on a typical valve body gasket. Testing techniqueswhich have been used in the past are discussed, alongwith a description of failure modes seen in the field. Newmeasurement techniques - which provide more detailederosion data - are introduced, and the results from testing
both current products and new products with these new
techniques are presented. Recent applications of inte-gral filter gaskets - which are designed to protect sole-noid bodies from contamination - are discussed, alongwith new testing techniques for evaluating the effects of
ATF immersion on filter gaskets. The results from testing
several filter medias with these new techniques are pre-sented.
