Detroit DieselAllisonintroduced it'sfirstelec
troniccontrolled transmission, theDP8000series
transmission, in1971withthediscrete logicshift
pattern· generator (SPG).In1983,anewstate-of
the-artdigitalelectronic controloptioncalledATEC
(Allison Transmission Electronic Control) wasoffered
ontheV700seriestransitcoachtransmission. Today,
theATECcontrolisavailable onallHT700series
transmissions including theCLBT700seriesoff-
highway transmissions. .
InJanuary 1986,theATECsystemwillreplace
thecurrentSPGelectronics acrosstheboardon5,6,
8,and9000seriesoff-highway transmissions. Itwill
offergreater capability andincreased reliability ata
reduced costoverthecurrentelectronics. TheATEC
systemiscurrently inafieldtestprogram thatwill
demonstrate itsreliability improvement overtheSPG
system.
ALLISON INTRODUCED IT'SFIRSTELECTRONIC
CONTROLLED transmission in1971withthediscrete
logicshiftpatterngenerator (SPG)offeredontheDP
8000seriestransmission. Overall transmission per
formance was.improved byreplacing hydraulic con
trolswithelectrohydraulic controls. TheSPGsystem
utilized analogdiscrete logicelectronics toauto
matically. command rangechanges baseduponspeed
and.throttle whileusingahydraulic valvebodyonly
for.control duringtheapplication ofthetransmission
clutches••Themajorbenefits ofthissystem were
improved shift.pointaccuracy andtheelimination of
mechanical linkages.
Inthelate70's,DDAbeganthedevelopment of
the..secondgeneration electronic controls basedupon
microprocessor computer basedelectronics forits
intelligence.( 1)*Thisnewcontrol wasdesigned for

off-highway transmissions. Additional benefits ofthe
computerized controlincluded preciseshiftaccuracy
andoptimization, improved fueleconomy, selfdiag
nostics, transmission-application customization, gains
inperformance, andpotential overallpowertrain op
timization.
In1983thisnewAllisonTransmission Electronic
Control(ATEC)systemwasofferedasanoptionwith
theVseriestransitcoachtransmission. Today,the
ATECsystemisavailable onallHTseriestransmis
sionsincluding theCLBT700seriesoff-highway
transmissions.
TheATECsystemwillreplace thecurrent SPG
electronics acrosstheboardonthe5000,6000,DP
8000,andCLBT9000heavydutyoff-highway trans
