Theseinclude: •greaterstartability •improved gradeability athighspeeds •greateroverallvehicleretarding capability •greatercontinuous coolingcapacity ABSTRACT Inthepastfewyears,enginepowerratingshave steadilyincreased. Tomeetthedemandofengineand vehiclemanufacturers foratransmission tomatch theselargerengines,DetroitDieselAllisondeveloped theCLBT9680 transmission. Thistransmission has beendesigued anddeveloped tooperateinrear-dump bucksupto127tonne(140-ton) capacity, andinbot­ tom-orside-dump trucksupto154tonne(170-ton) capacity.Intheseapplications theCLBT9680 hasapowerratingupto1007kW(1350ghp).Thetransmis­ sion can alsobeapproved withengines ratedupto 1093kW(1465ghp)inspecialpm,!,oseinstallations suchasoilfieldserviceequipment. Inthispaperthetransmission desiguandtestde­ velopment programs arepresented.
